Jamshedpur FC found the breakthrough in the game when a long throw-in from their end was hastily cleared out of the Chennaiyin FC box, before it landed at Rei Tachikawa’s feet outside the 18-yard box. Tachikawa showed tremendous technique to meet the ball at an awkward angle and dispatch it into the bottom right corner with his right foot in the 18th minute. CFC 0 – 1 JFC
Chennaiyin FC responded with a fast break where a string of quick passes enabled them to embark on a counter-attack. Farukh Choudhary paced his run well and timed his lateral ball for Daniel Chima Chukwu, but the striker ended up meeting the ball on a deflection and drilling the ball into the bottom left corner from the middle of the penalty area in the 25th minute. Chukwu turned provider in the added time of the first half, receiving a long ball in a pocket of space inside the Jamshedpur FC half. The forward showed impeccable agility in turning quickly and laying a pass in the path of Lukas Brambilla. The attacking midfielder pulled off incredible footwork with a burst of pace before using his left foot to slot the ball into the bottom right corner from the left side to get a slender advantage heading into the half-time break. Farukh optimised the vacant spaces in the Jamshedpur FC area, as in the 57th minute he received a straightforward pass and demonstrated laudable vision to find Irfan Yadwad with a through ball in the final third. Farukh’s perfectly-weighted pass delicately sliced past the Red Miners’ defensive organisation and Irfan showed promise by using his right foot to hammer the ball into the centre of the net from outside of the box to get his side’s third goal of the game. Jamshedpur FC regained their composure shortly afterwards. While they have been lethal in exploring an array of opportunities to breach backlines, tonight they pulled off a slick sequence of short passing moves that culminated with Tachikawa squaring up a pass for Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) graduate Mohammed Sanan powering the ball into the top right corner from the centre of the box to cut the deficit to one goal. CFC 3 – 2 JFC
Irfan got the Marina Machans their extra bit of cushion in the 90th minute mark, capitalising on a disoriented Jamshedpur FC defence as he received a pass from Wilmar Jordan Gil and lobbed it into the bottom left corner with thorough ease. CFC 4 – 2 JFC
As the match entered deep inside the added time, the visitors did not correct their defence and ended up ceding plenty of space in the back. Brambilla launched a through ball for Chukwu that was deposited into the bottom right corner from close distance to cap off a five-star performance for the Marina Machans. CFC 5 – 2 JFC
