Chelsea have paid part of their FIFA Club World Cup bonus to the families of footballer Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. The London club won around $114.6 million (£84.4 million) after beating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the tournament final in July. Of this, $15.5 million (£11.4 million) was set aside for player bonuses. Now the club and players have agreed to pay the same amount to Jota’s family. Liverpool forward Jota and his brother, who played for Portuguese team Penafiel, died in a car crash in Zamora, Spain, on July 3. Liverpool have also decided to retire Jota’s number 20 jersey, erect a commemorative sculpture at Anfield and add the “Forever 20” logo to players’ kits from the 2025-26 season.
