India suffer disappointing defeat to Singapore; finish last in group

India suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Singapore in the much-awaited AFC qualifiers. After drawing the match in Singapore last week, India suffered a shocking defeat at home. Despite taking the lead in the first half, India could not hold on to Singapore’s comeback.

India took the lead in the 14th minute through a brilliant goal by Lalliansuwala Changte. Changte fired a bullet shot from 35 yards out past the Singapore goalkeeper and into the top corner of the net. However, Singapore responded with just moments left in the first half. In the 44th minute, Song Yui-yong scored the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-1. The second half became more intense. The decisive moment of the game came in the 58th minute. Song Yui-yong scored again for Singapore, putting them 2-1 ahead. India then tried hard to equalize but failed. With this defeat, India is at the bottom of the AFC qualifying group with just 2 points from four matches.
