India’s surge leaves powerful Oman shaken, knocks them out in shootout, captain Gurpreet comes to the rescue

The Indian football team won the bronze medal by defeating Oman in a penalty shootout at the Central Asian Football Association Nationals Cup 2025. The match went to a penalty shootout after both teams were tied 1-1 in regular time and extra time. India, ranked 133 in the FIFA rankings, defeated Oman, ranked 79th. Oman took the lead in the 55th minute through a goal scored by Jameel Al Yahmadi. Later, India’s efforts to pull one back paid off in the 80th minute. Substitute Udanta Singh scored a goal to level the score for India. Later, neither team could score a goal in extra time.

Oman missed the first two kicks in the penalty shootout. However, Anwar Ali and Udanta missed penalties for India. In the end, it was goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu who saved Oman’s last kick to give India the victory.

This victory not only secured India the bronze medal but also showed the team’s fighting spirit to perform well against strong opponents. This victory is expected to boost the team’s confidence in the upcoming matches.
