Switzerland bows out in shootout, England reaches Euro Cup semi-finals

Dusseldorf: England beat Switzerland to reach the Euro Cup semi-finals. England won 5-3 in the shootout. Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toni and Trent Alexander-Arnold scored for England. Fabian Schaar, Xherdan Shaqiri and Zeki Amdoni scored for Switzerland in the shootout. Swiss player Akanji’s attempt, which took the first kick, was saved by English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Both teams scored one goal each in regular time and extra time, and the game ended in a draw. Switzerland took the lead in the 75th minute through Briel Embolo. However, England responded in the 80th minute through Bukayo Saka.

Both teams attacked from the start of the match, but the first half was goalless. In the 14th minute, England’s Declan Rice’s brilliant goal attempt was blocked by the Swiss defense. In the 25th minute, Swiss striker Mbolo’s shot was saved by English player Ezra Konsa. England took five shots and Switzerland two shots in the first half, but none were on target.

While the midfielders shone, the strikers of both teams faded. In the 30th minute, English midfielder Jude Bellingham, who was advancing with the ball, was fouled by Swiss defender Fabian Scherr. The Swiss player received a yellow card. In the 36th minute, a goal move between Jude Bellingham and Saka was saved by Swiss goalkeeper Sommer with precise observation. In the 38th minute, England’s Phil Foden’s mistake led to Switzerland’s counter. But that too was off target. The score was 0–0 in the first half.
Saka responds to Embolo’s goal

Swiss defender Manuel Akanji cleared a move by Jude Bellingham early in the second half. The first on-target shot of the match came in the 50th minute. Swiss player Embolo’s low shot was easily saved by English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. In the 62nd minute, Steven Zuber and Sylvain Widmer came on for Switzerland. Phil Foden then crossed the ball into the Swiss box, but Jude Bellingham’s first touch did not pose a threat to the Swiss goal. England captain Harry Kane was shown a yellow card for a foul on Manuel Akanji. The fans in the gallery, wearing red and white jerseys, were shaken and turned upside down when the Swiss scored in the 74th minute.Swiss striker Mbolo, wearing the number seven jersey, scored the first goal of the match. Mbolo beat English defender John Stones to score the goal. The Swiss goal came in the 75th minute, but England responded five minutes later. Bukayo Saka equalized for England with an assist from Declan Rice. The player, who advanced down the right wing, shot from outside the Swiss box and hit the target. Both teams continued to make moves, but only one more goal was scored.
